The Golden Calf, A Word from Pastor Caleb Yetton of The Rock Church in Utah.

Today in my Chronological reading plan I read Isaiah 54-58. When I was younger, I was often judgmental as I read about Israel's idolatry. "How silly!" I would say. "How could they idolize those little gods when they know Elohim!" Yet as I have aged I read it with a new perspective.

Our idols are different now. We don't melt down our jewelry and cast it into calves, no. But we take our jobs, our families, our money, our drink and food, and our entertainment and we throw it into the smelter. We produce a graven image of something different in looks, but the same in essence as the golden calves of ancient times.

"When you cry out, let your collection of idols deliver you. But the wind will carry all of them up, And a breath will take them away. But he who takes refuge in Me will inherit the land And will possess My holy mountain ." Is. 57:13

Let us not cry out to our idols for deliverance. But instead take refuge in the one true God. The one worthy of the throne.
